    Sın

    ----------------------------------------------
    The Ascended

    ----------------------------------------------

Sın is an ancient being who began life billions of years ago on the planet N'vana named Sinmara. She was an explorer driven to extremes seeking out the mysteries of creation and, through a combination of science sorcery and alchemy, she became one of the Ascended. Unlike most of her kind, Sinmara retained memories of her former life as a wife and a mother making her remorseful of all that was now lost to her. Seeking to reclaim what was taken from her, she found her way barred and then torn by tragedy when she found her family brutally murdered. Other Ascended had done this to her standing apart from them and evolving into a Myrkstigende (Dark Ascended, Dark Angel) calling herself Sın until the War of Angels.

Attacked and cast down into the Abyss with the Fallen, Sın became filled with wrath and vengeance against all Ascended beings. She would, nonetheless, remain an explorer who found her way through the Netherworlds until reaching a world called Múspell. There, she would discover the demon-god Surt whose curiosity about her allowed Sın to command his power. Together they would open a rift between universes and Múspell became drawn into the Abode of Gods where it became broken apart. Sın would forget that Surt was a willing supplicant and not her thrall until finally angering him. Surt then devoured her as if she were just a tasty morsel to fill his gut until finally vomiting her up like an indigestible piece of bone.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Surt

    ----------------------------------------------

Sın was a pathetic wretch of a creature whose outer layers of flesh had dissolved away and whose suffering was so great she couldn't even scream. Genuinely surprised to find her yet living, Surt could sense the strength remaining within her and reached out as if to crush and do away with her forever. Instead, Surt would heal and restore Sın allowing her to rise to her feet and to take her place at his side. Sensing the changes within her allowed Sın to see that she was now a part of him and that while separate, it would become clear that they often thought and acted as one. She would again call herself Sinmara and soon discovered her rebirth had left her pregnant with a child she would name Surtr.

Sinmara would become like a Mother Goddess to the Mund-spilli, the world-destroyers who went by names such as the Múspellssynir/Múspellsmegir (Sons of Múspell), Múspellsdǿtr (Daughters of Múspell), the Rjúfendr (Destroyers of Doomsday), Världsbrand (World burners) and those Eldjötnar she gave birth to. Surt possessed desires of becoming the mightiest of gods with a pantheon of his own and with Sinmara as his Queen. Her own aspirations were to serve in making his dreams into a reality for them both until Stórrkala (the Big Freeze), a cataclysm created when Götterdämmerung destroyed their ancient Sun and which would not end until the first flames of Múspell were rekindled.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Múspelheimr

    ----------------------------------------------

While Surt was more ancient, the primordial Elder God Ymir had awakened before him as ruler of Niflheimr. An ancient war would begin between them that ultimately cast them into the universe of Miğgarğr carrying on their war from the Moons of Maakera. Sinmara now ruled as sole regent over Múspell and would appoint her son Surtr to her husbands place with his wife taking her place as Queen. Sinmara now became focused on increasing the size of her kingdom. She would be so powerful at this point, that she caused smaller land masses to collide with Múspell doubling it in size... and then multiplying even this by causing a collision with a large fragment of the destroyed Strīthverǫld called Fornskaği (Ancient Death).

Múspelheimr would be the name given to the original lands of Múspell and it is from here that the Mund-spilli then poured out over these new lands, conquered them in Sinmara's name and transformed them into a new bloodline descended from her called the Brännşjóğ (fire people/nation). These were a dark-skinned people with hair like fire who had never known Surt because his fate was unknown after the destruction he had caused on Miğgarğr. The Brännşjóğ knew of Surt because of a faith called Surtheiğinnsiğr which Sinmara had created to worship him creating a trinity of Surt the Father, Surtr the Son and Sinmara the Holy Mother (aka Queen Mother). When Goğheimr formed, Múspell became absorbed into it as a shadowy realm with Surtr as it's sole lord and master.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Surtr

    ----------------------------------------------

Surtr was conceived while Sinmara was within his fathers gut as she emerged changed forever with a part of Surt saturating every part of her being. Surtr would be the merging of the two possessing his fathers for but his mothers features. His purpose was to protect his fathers kingdom until his father disappeared and Surtr was called upon to take his fathers place. Together, Sinmara and her son would build Eldheimr, the central kingdom which rules over all of Múspell as it's capital. Surtr would be different from his father seeking a new queen to rule beside him and freeing Sinmara to seek out her own goals in life. Where her aspirations had always been to serve as wife to Surt and to be mother of his children, she would now become free to pursue her own ambitions.

Reassuming her identity as Sın, the Mund-spilli dared not transgress against Sın knowing that it would incur Surtrs wrath and that she alone could destroy them. Should she have need for anything that was his to give, Surtr would provide it to Sın because she was his most important ally whose trust he held firmly within his heart. While his mother had abandoned him to seek out her destiny elsewhere, she would return to his side when needed in his battles with the Níu Heimar. Surtr would build on his empire becoming ruler over the Tenth Level of Purgatory with his wife Sin-nahti (eternal night, darkness of Hell) as its queen while their son Báldróttinn rules Múspelheimr in their name.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Frostsfyre

    ----------------------------------------------

Sın would evolve more along the lines of a sorceress inspired by what some might label evil and becoming an avatar of chaos. She had found her way to the world of Frostsfyre, a world created in the passing of the Abode of Gods and creation of Goğheimr. It was a world unknown to her as if newly created when it was first discovered although it was already ancient as if it had always been. This was a world where she sensed Surts presence and learned that he was known here as the Great Beast, a being who had arison to fight a planet shattering war against the Dark One during the Awakening. Then came the fall of Surt and the Mund-spilli with him collapsed into disarray fleeing for survival and founding several new races each worshiping Surt in their own ways.

The most powerful of these were the Hyrfjándi (Firedevils) of Brennalǫnd (the Burning Lands) whom Sın quickly beat into submission after unifying some of the lesser races behind her leadership. She had revealed herself to them as Sinmara and summoned weaklings from among the Mund-spilli who were hungry for power... power she could give them among these peoples. Through the blood of Surt, they would gain rule over these peoples and then unify them further by introducing them to Bálgoği and Bálgyğjur (fire priests & priestesses) of the Surtheiğinnsiğr faith. Colloquially known as Svarthöfğar (Black Heads), after another name for Surt, adherents of Surtheiğinnsiğr would infiltrate every region of Frostsfyre.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Surtsgarğr

    The Burning Lands
    ----------------------------------------------

She would also bring twelve sarcophagi called Stānąvömbs where the bodies of the dead and dying would be placed. These would either be healed or dissolved so that any surviving biological processes might be fully regenerated as a new whole or as newborn babies. In either case, it would serve as a rebirth for this being and a source for power for Sın proving mutually beneficial for all involved. She would place each of these Stānąvömbs in hidden locations across Frostsfyre, with only one in use at any time, and with a thirteenth left in Múspell.

Sın was no longer as powerful as she had been but her powers of sorcery grew with time aiding her ability to command and manipulate others. At various times, she would assume positions of leadership using the title of Queen Sinmara and Queen of the Burning Lands. She had been in need of a sanctuary which she found in the shadows of a dormant volcano and created with the aid of her son Surtr who still respected his mother. In return, she would give Surtr honor as God of the Burning Lands while her true devotion would remain to his father Surt. Sın would call the volcano Eldfjall (Fire Mountain) and the natural enclosure which surrounded it Surtsgarğr, an appropriate name for what once had been the base for an even more gigantic volcano.

When undone by her enemies, Sın always seemed as if coming closer to her ultimate goal and be resurrected by the Stānąvömbs should she be slain or destroyed. Should she have need of him, Surtr would provide her with anything she needed as long as it was his to give. As if the Burning Lands themselves were not enough to deter trespassers, the powerful defenses built into Surtsgarğr and those guarding it would. Among these defenses are creatures called Eldrhögg (Fire Strikers), a type of firebreathing Hellbender (Salamander) Sın considered pets and protectors. But the greatest defense is the ability to literally set the Burning Lands surrounding Surtsgarğr on fire and her peoples tolerance to the flames allowing them to fight within them.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Surtheiğinnsiğr

    ----------------------------------------------

Soon after her arrival on Frostsfyre, Sın had cultivated a religious following called

among the native inhabitants destined to become the Múspellslığur (Múspells people). The

of the faith would infiltrate many peoples including the Imperial House of Bleeding Stone. Members of the Múspellssynir would join their ranks to increase their power as would Eldjötnar or the Sons of Múspell to join them as well. While devoted to Surt the Father, Surtr the Son and Sın the Holy Mother; their belief system is not inherently malevolent. Sın chose to focus on more positive aspects for Surtheiğinnsiğr because mortals could be delicate creatures and to rule them she sought to appeal to their sense of mortality.

In the battles that followed, Sın would receive a brutal mauling by a massive demon-possessed bear and barely escaped destruction. Her body and spirit broken, she became a wanderer traveling across the face of this world learning its secrets and searching for a way to undo the damage to her body. The bear that had attacked her was rabid and the demons power caused the disease to affect her in unforeseen ways so that her powers would not heal her. Sın would learn to mask her appearance with illusions before discovering a way to heal herself that would only require time. She would bury her body within one of the Stānąvömbs while using the others to create new bodies that were as mortal as those she now ruled over.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Rebirth of Sın

    ----------------------------------------------

After penetrating the Imperial House of Bleeding Stone, one of the Bálgoği presented a Stānąvömb as a gift to the Lord Magistrate. The pretext of the gift was its ability to heal and regenerate these mortal rulers and to send them into the afterlife to become one with Arnbjørn, the god who had aided the Dark One in Surts defeat. The Lord Magistrates of this Imperial House are mortal but descended from Arnbjørn and within each of their bodies lay a portent of the gods' power of the gods power. When a Lord Magistrate perished, their remains were placed within the Stānąvömb where they were consumed by fire. As the centerpiece of the Lord Magistrates funeral complex and temple, none could know what its true purpose was.

The death of the Lord Magistrate Kull the Grim would signal change as the Stānąvömb glowed when his body was placed into it. Sıns true body had dissolved away leaving only those elements which were unaffected by the disease that had ravaged it. Sensing the time had arrived, Sın ordered her priests to prepare her for sacrifice and then summoned a bolt of fire from Múspell itself to consume her body. Her life energies and those of her original body now found their way into the Lord Magistrates Stānąvömb where Sın then emerged whole and reborn. Taking the name

, Sın assumed a subservient role to the new Lord Magistrate deeming him too weak to oppose her.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Releasing the Great Beast

    ----------------------------------------------

Sın had no desire to rule the Imperial House but would ultimately kill it's Lord Magistrate to assume his place when he learned her true purpose. She would take on his likeness until rewarding a loyal minion with his form allowing her to continue eliminating threats to her husbands release from where he lay imprisoned. Sın sought out special plates that had been created by Surt himself and which he wore around his neck like a necklace. These had been broken away from his body and become scattered across Frostsfyre by various forces. It was no secret where Surt had fallen as legends told that the Great Beast had been cast down at a location she knew well. Placing these discs strategically around this location, Sın awakened ancient ley lines which became like rivers flowing into a lake.

When Kull the Eternal rallied armies to his side and turned the Imperial House against her, Sın abandoned it having achieved the first stage of her plans successfully. Sın then began a series of wars designed to weaken the Imperial House after Kull proved both wise and powerful as Lord Magistrate. Returning to Surtsgarğr, Sın entered into communion with Surtr who had need of her to plot against his enemies and to make war with them. When she returned from Goğheimr, Sın was even more powerful and brought with her a group of powerful allies she had been lacking. They would succeed in releasing the Great Beast only to see him defeated when the very powers used to release Surt were reversed to reimprison him again.

    ----------------------------------------------
    The Power of Sın

    ----------------------------------------------

In stark contrast to Surt, her skin was red and she possessed smokey black wings

Sinmara would capture a Djinn during one of her battles and stripped him of flesh inch by agonizing inch to steal his powers for her own.

What makes Sın particularly dangerous is that she doesn't desire power or to rule. She seeks only to survive and to serve whatever purpose Surt might have for her. At present, that purpose is to release him and to serve their son Surtr in preserving Eldheimr for his return. Sın doesn't see herself as evil or as a demon regardless of how others may view her. She views herself as a force of nature, the desire to survive which exists among all living things. The Ascended remain a focus for her hatred and those she perceives as worshiping them become her enemies. They would seek sterilized perfection and to pursue their flawed vision of Order which she rejects because there is no such thing as perfection and everything has its flaws.

Sın views those who claim to be a force for good as patronizing and condescending as they always believe their way is best and themselves superior because of it. Sın created Surtheiğinnsiğr in opposition to this, to accept ones inner darkness but to purge weakness by cleansing the soul... with fire. Her love for family extends to all the Sons of Múspell and Eldjötnar descended from her, a weakness permitted because love can be the greatest of strengths. She is a shapeshifter possessing powers of sorcery based on elemental fire and various gifts for granting wishes when it serves her purposes. For all her darkness, Sin uses her powers to aid those whose desire is to survive as long as they are willing to submit to her rule.

Sin is a major player within the World of Frøstsfyre. She is enigmatic and eternally patient where her objectives lay. She often engages in activities to test her adversaries even should it cause her defeat. She does not hold grudges against any who defeat her as these are learning experiences. The only grudge she possesses is for the Ascended and any she perceives as embodying their nature. This, by definition, makes her evil. And yet, Sin views mortality as something worthy of preserving as long as it wishes to survive. There is a nature to things and she does not wantonly destroy or kill those wishing to survive unless they are working against her or those under her protection.

Surtheiğinnsiğr is mostly comprised of mortals seeking to become reborn as Múspellssynir. The Followers of Sın who intermarry with the Sons of Múspell, in ceremonies performed by the Múspellsgyğjur, are transformed when a seed is transferred into them by their mate. Thus, the Múspellssynir are mostly female and some from among them become Múspellsgyğjur. They gain the ability to transform themselves into ash colored demon-like creatures with molten fire flowing through their veins and glowing from beneath their skin in certain areas. This transformation only occurs if they are loyal to Sin and where they can transform into Múspellssynir, they can just as easily revert back to their original form to conceal their true nature.
