Gods of War and Death

----------------------------------------------

The Gntvar (aka Valtvar) are a pantheon of war and death deities descended from the Tvar, an ancient race of gods ruled over Skiwfadēr Tīwaz (Sky Father). These were mostly lesser deities who found, in the god Sigtr, a new leader when he married the goddess Goddess of Death; Hellirūna. The Tvar were following a more peaceful course leading to stagnation where these gods were expected to adapt and change which was not within their nature to do. With them came other gods who agreed with their views and who formed the Alingi (Universal Assembly) to represent them in the court of King Sigtr

While magnanimous as a ruler, Sigtr assumed the identity of Sigkongr (Victorious King) more to assert his power over the Gntvar should they prove rebellious against him. The name Valtvar more represents the gods of death over which his queen Hellirūna rules more directly. It is from her palace ljnir (sprayed with snowstorms) that they would first rule as a couple from the underworld known as Jrmungrundar of which Niflheimr was the largest area. Making war with a race of Hrimthurs (Frost Giants, Jtnar) called the Helreginn, Sigtr gained control over the lands of Andlt and established the kingdom of mgarr as his own.

Sigtr

----------------------------------------------

Born as Ǫlnir innsson (Protector, Savior), son of the god inn and his second wife Freyja, Sigtr began life as more his mothers son and he was raised to be a scholar. Yet, within his chest beat the heart of a warrior and he would abandon the fate his mother planned for him to seek a life of adventure. Abandoning his birth name to become a mercenary, he would eventually find himself at war against the Helreginn which is where he first laid eyes upon Hellirūna and swore he would one day make her his bride. It was to this end that he swore allegiance to her father Tīwaz until proving himself worthy to ask for her hand in marriage.

When that day came and he gained her fathers' permission, Hellirūna spurned him. Where she teased him as her "little god of war", Hellirūna would eventually accept him when he unleashed his rage in a campaign of war lasting several years. She had not wanted a man to be her husband who needed her fathers permission and was teaching him a lesson that in serving her father, he had made himself appear weak. With their marriage, Tīwaz would adopt him as his own and it was he who would give Sigtr his new name noting how a god of war had won his daughters' love.

Sigtr would come to understand that his wife would fulfill her duties to him as a wife and that she cared, but that was the extant of it. She likewise understood him and his hot-blooded passions so that she allowed him to have a series of mistresses and concubines. While he would use many different weapons, Sigtrs primary weapons are the sword-axe Drbrisar (Giant killer) and the hand-axe Hjǫrrbrjta (sword breaker) each reforged from a single "unbreakable" weapon that had finally been broken. His symbols are the goshawk, the vargr, a fire wyrmling which wraps itself around his right arm and the ash representing a spear of war.

----------------------------------------------
Hela

----------------------------------------------

Sired as the daughter of Ziu (Tīwaz) by his queen Zisa, her birth was at first a tiding of great sorrow as it was thought she was stillborn. They would discover, however, that she was not dead... she just wasn't what they understood as living. Her mother was of Helreginn origin and it was they and it was they, after which. she was named Hellirūna to appease their anger with her. Because of the fear and dread of her even as a child, her parents would build a palace for her within Jrmungrundar which they named ljnir and she called Nepja Helaną (Cold Hell).

Within the Underworld, her ability to bring death by her presence alone would do no harm except to any yet living foolish enough to enter her domain. Ruling over much of the Underworld at this time were Fraujaz (her Aunt), Sigyn, Irpa, Skai all of whom she eventually replaced. She accomplished this with the aid of tgara-Loki, a powerful god of illusions who would adopt her as his own being proud of her accomplishments. When the god inn entered Jrmungrundar to make war claiming himself a God of Death, he would be defeated by Hellirūna and forced to retreat taking with him the goddess Freyja as his second wife.

An uneasy peace would be established where inn gave her the new name Hela and acceptance of her within his own pantheon as the supreme Goddess of Death... and ruler of Helheimr. When she accepted the god Sigtr as her husband, she would assume the role of being a dutiful wife if he desired it of her. Sigtr understood her lack of passion and she cared nothing for his affairs as long as he served as her husband where and when she had need of him. Hellirūna would have an ice wyrmling around her left arm, a rauaugagīr (red-eyed vulture), a great cat known as saxtǫnn (Dagger-Tooth); and a yew tree symbolizing death and rebirth.

----------------------------------------------
AluniR

----------------------------------------------

The only son of Sigtr and Hela, his birth was made possible only when Hela possessed the body of her husbands' mistress Bergljot. While her own body was infertile and could not create life, her spirit could pass on its energies through a surrogate. Bergljot would then be sent to the world of Frstsfyre with those appointed as guardians for the child where she knew she was destined to die in childbirth before being returned to receive her reward. His guardians now became his caregivers and he was given the name AluniR (meaning All-Protector), a name chosen by Bergljot hoping it bode well for the son she had carried within her.

AluniR would be born knowing of the circumstances surrounding his birth and living at the site where his biological mother was buried beneath a large stone engraved in her honor. He would not be a full god because of the circumstances of his birth and his childhood would not be typical of gods or mortals. Nor was he given life without purpose as he would be raised to give birth to a new race of mortals to honor Afi inn (Grandfather inn). His father provided him with a powerful weapon called Banahgg (Deathstroke, Deathblow) which, when drawn, transformed the child into the figure of a man.

Growing into manhood, it was said AluniR possessed a voice like the sound of thunder, but that its touch upon the ears was like the sweetest honey. He would use that voice to become Hrfair (High Father) and became worthy of the fellowship of warriors even as he became worthy of women to bear his offspring. When his time on Frstsfyre came to an end, he became leader of men who had been condemned to death meeting his end on the battlefield. AluniRs spirit then returned to Helas' side where he became reborn as a god of thunder from beneath the ground rather than the skies above.

mgerr

----------------------------------------------

Born among the lesser gods of the Tvar, mgerr was orphaned early in his life and swore an oath to follow Sigtr even before the founding of the Gntvar. He found a place for himself learning from the innsvegr (inns Way or inns Law) knowing of Sigtrs past and that he still loved his father even if he could not be the scholar his mother wanted him to be. He learned to be a master at manipulating others and laid the foundations for what came to be called innsir (Cult of inn) which ultimately brought him to Sigtrs side.

In time, he would be entrusted as Keeper of innsvegr and Lǫgbringa (Lawbringer) over the religious caste as its Hrgoi (High Chief/High Priest). His role was to teach others about inns life and the laws he wanted them to live by as he had been taught by Sigtr himself. It was because of his masters confidence and trust in him that mgerr would be entrusted to instruct AluniR and then, to teach the mortal innsbǫrn Sigtrs son was predestined to father. mgerr was also a practitioner of Goseir, the form of sorcery practiced by the gods themselves and for which, he wore silver engraved bracelets limiting his use of it among mortals.

----------------------------------------------
Banamar

----------------------------------------------

The god known as Banamar (aka The Executioner) rules over the Helsith by appointment of Hela herself. He was battleborn with the name Halvor having been given birth to by his mother during war and raised never knowing a day without conflict or preparing for conflict. Although powerful, he was also chosen to serve as executioner to cowards and prisoners of war who served no purpose. Where others might have felt slighted to face such mundane tasks, Banamar enjoyed it and took his pay with the number of heads he collected.

When the day finally came where Banamar met his match and was overwhelmed by enemy forces, he fell bravely. His body would be thrown into a burial pit with all the others who had fallen alongside of him and the pit set ablaze by those who triumphed over them. Banamar, however, would not remain among the dead for long as he had delivered so many souls to Hela that she had placed a mark of protection upon him. Bursting forth from the pit, scarred but alive once more, Banamar gave pursuit after those who had done this to him... and killed them all.

While ruler over the Helsith, Banamar is at the beck and call of Hela whenever she has need of him to carry out an execution or to destroy an enemy. While he is normally tall and thin like many of the Helsith, Banamar can summon greater power from the dead he has slain which provides him with a far more muscular frame. Banamar often paints his face to appear like a skull or wears various masks which let his adversaries know the only mercy they will receive from him is a quick death. His primary weapon is a massive short handled, double-bladed Bryntrll called Hausakljfr (Skull-splitter).

----------------------------------------------
Helsith

----------------------------------------------

Descended from the Aos S by way of the Fge (Phage), the Feigr are a powerful race of Fae who mixed blood with the Taurian race known as the euraz. One of their clans, the Tehunbl (Ten-Blood), were survivors of an r raid where they were whisked away by a young sorcerer not yet disciplined in spellcasting. Finding themselves on Frstsfyre, the Tehun (shortened because there were only ten survivors) were mostly males who took wives from among the Heitari and, in their wanderings, mixed blood with a member of the Sinhtgunt who had come among them wounded and near to death.

It is from this Sinhtgunt that their final evolution into the Helsith began. Possessing a tall, slender form with horns, serpentine tail and an overall demon-like appearance; the Helsith are known for bone-crushing teeth, heightened senses, cat-like reflexes, endurance, speed, cunning and sexual prowess. Helsith would become as well known for a savage beast they bred into existence called the Tarfurian Helhundr which possessed all their masters abilities. At birth, their caregivers begin tattooing their bodies until one side is white and the other blue to honor the goddess Hela whom they are raised to worship. Some add further patterns into their blue side or even burn their flesh on this side to help give it a more decayed appearance but this is more rare than the norm.

The name Tarfurian derives from the name of a series of fortifications called solveigs (strong houses) they called Tarfr culminating in the building of Aurvandil, their capital city. Their kingdom on Frstsfyre became known as Tarfrskera (Konungdmr Tarfur) with most outsiders calling the Helsith Tarfurian. When they die, their spirits find their way to Helgarr where they would be welcomed by the Hugvrur (Spirit Guard) to rule over the Helvttir (underworld spirits). Here they would create a palace called Aptann where they are ruled over by Nymne Blstjarna, Banamar and their son Tunglą. They would be charged to defend the eastern corner of the Helveggr within which lay the Helgrindr (Hellgates).

----------------------------------------------
Sinhtgunt

----------------------------------------------

Sinhtgunt are warriors similar in most ways to the Valkyrie except that they represent both genders and they aren't as choosy about the souls they collect. It might be more true to call them reapers in the classic sense except that they also serve as warriors under Helas' command. Rather than being accompanied by carrion feeders; Sinhtgunt can transform themselves into wolves, ravens and vultures either for concealment or effect. Their primary weapon of choice is a slightly curved scimitar-type sword that can easily cut through stone and base metals. A distinguishing mark is that they are born with a crescent moon shape on their foreheads and often have purple hues as flesh color.

----------------------------------------------
Hrafnalsvartr & Hrafnhvtr

----------------------------------------------

tgara-Loki would be the father of many offspring. Two of these he sired by the Hrafnds goddess strr (Goddess of Beauty) who first gave birth to a child whose skin was white and pure leading her to name the child Hrafnalhvtr (Raven All-White). Thinking she was done, strr found herself gripped by birth pangs yet again as she rose to her feet. From a squatting position, she then gave birth to Hrafnalsvartr (Raven All-Black) without the pain or sensations she had felt giving birth to the girls twin sister. The sisters were drawn together although it was quite clear they were opposites being that one was all-white and the other all-black.

Where one was white, the other was black; where one was right-handed, the other was left, where one was maternal, the other was paternal, where one supported peace, the other supported war, where one was good, the other was evil... and yet, they always found a way to agree. Hrafnalsvartr possessed the ability to create an enchanted blade from her left forearm and a whip with explosive tip from the right while Hrafnhvtr possessed the same ability in reverse order. Both possessed great speed, agility and jumping ability which they used strategically, and in concert, with one another.

Their primary power would be to merge with one another becoming twice their size with four arms, four breasts two faces making them a binary entity.Their ability to merge or split apart can be almost instantaneous but it requires them to be in contact with one another. While lesser goddesses when apart, they become a full goddess when merged and their powers increase dramatically. As adults, they became servants of Hela as part of an arrangement where they would be sent to the world of Frstsfyre to serve as caretakers and protectors to Helas' son AluniR. When he reached adulthood, they also became his wives and would remain after his death to serve each Hrfair (High Father) among the innsbǫrn who succeeded him.

Hrafnbǫrn

Children of Ravens
----------------------------------------------

The Hrafnbǫrn, members of the Helsith who were practitioners of Derkaseir (dark sorcery). Being born with this ability does not mean that Hrafnbǫrn are powerful as it requires years of training to master Derkaseir. The primary abilities they possess are the ability to teleport rapidly over a space of ten feet or so, to leap up to ten times their height and they possess great inherent agility. Their powers over sorcery generally only reach levels of basic witchcraftand yet, there are some among them who attain far greater powers with effort. Of these, practitioners of necromancy and demonology are the most dangerous because they have invited external forces to augment their powers.
