Omaha Bulls

Beginning as the new Chicago All-Stars in 1914, the team that would become the Omaha Bulls was sponsored by Armour & Company meat packing plant. Joining the USA-AFL the following year, the franchise would begin purchasing the assets of other franchises from across the state of Illinois. Although a weak franchise, the USA-AFL needed teams for competition and its backers managed to keep a team in play now calling them the Thorn Tornadoes. Then came 1926 and the birth of the American Football League which created the Chicago Bulls tentatively owned by Joey Sternaman, C.C. Pyle and Red Grange as shareholders.

Storz Brewing Company bought the team at the end of the season and relocated it to Omaha, Nebraska. They would retain the team until 1948 when Armour & Company relocated the Chicago Tigers to Omaha and purchased the Bulls. The Tigers actually began as a team called the East Chicago Gophers that played from 1912 and became more powerful by absorbing other teams like the Chicago Boosters, Chicago Pullman Thorns, Chicago-Thorn Tornadoes and Chicago Shamrocks. Armour & Company's second largest meat packing plant was located in Omaha and while a smaller market, it would prove more successful for the reformed Bulls.

The Omaha Bulls would then begin building from within before purchasing the Omaha Mustangs in 1970. Sixteen years later, Armour purchased the Jacksonville Bulls from Fred "Bubba" Bullard and the failed United States Football League. This merger resulted in the Bulls becoming one of the top teams in the USA-AFL
