    Deshret

The Bloodlands of Deshret are best described as a wounded beast born into existence ripped open and driven into madness unwilling, or unable, to die! It exists as a surviving remnant of this worlds earliest beginnings when the Dark One discovered it and sought to awaken it from its eternal slumber. Instead, these lands would be torn asunder as rivers of blood poured forth flowing into what would become the Erythraen Sea. Within the Lands of Erythrae, geysers of blood bellowed forth even as volcanoes erupted transforming this region into one of immense heat and an ever-present stench of boiling blood pervades the atmosphere. It would be from within the very heart of these lands that the god Apep would be resurrected and rise forth to make war against the Dark One ending with his ultimate defeat.

Where Apep fell would become forever aflame like some enormous blast furnace serving as this worlds southern pole. Called Senef-Nu, those who came to this place would establish the Cult of Apep with a pharaonic figure possessing the title of Apophis to rule over them. This would be a place of sacrifice as those brought to these lands against their will would be dealt with most harshly in the name of the unseen Impaled God whom Apep revealed to them through scripture as his true father. They would also give worship to the ancient blood god Shezmu and gave to him the goddess Sekhmet to establish a pantheon of bloodthirsty lion-headed gods called the Senef-Ru. In their cosmology, the Senef-Ru were born from Apeps heart when he was slain and while cursed with the thirst of vampirism... they eat what they kill!

    ----------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------

Within the Erythraen Sea exists the Sphere of Death, a misnomer considering that the creatures that suffer its effects are more undead than truly dead. Those who were not vampires prior to their transformation would be reborn as creatures similar in nature to ghoūls called the Teufelläich. The Teufelläich is a changeling creature which, at first, appears like a skinless dog which hungers for flesh to regrow its own and then to regain human form through the blood. Those who had been vampires before their transformation became Blůtengels, beings retaining human form but which evolve into angelic beings by feeding on the life energies of others. Where the Sphere of Life allowed shared intimacies to create new life or to heal, the Sphere of Death creates new life only within death and decay.

Beyond the boundaries of Senef-Nu and the Erythraen Sea exists the Lands of Skolos (σκῶλος) where the impaled remains of countless dead are slowly dissolved into the rich soils beneath them. From these dead would emerge bloodworms, creatures which formed from eggs lain upon the suffering dead which burrowed into their brains to absorb their sapient knowledge. These creatures then emerge from the earth like maggots feeding on the body of some decaying beast rather than life within a natural order teaming with life. These bloodworms possess the ability to anesthetize a victim causing an induced sleep where they penetrate their body, encompass the spine and then begin a metamorphosis into a Cama-Zotz.

    ----------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------

Within the boundaries of Senef-Nu, vampires do not need to feed upon the living to survive as the waters of these lands are actual blood which can be freely drunken or even bathed in. It cannot, however, provide the power some among them desire which can only be acquired by feeding upon the life energies of living victims. The lust for power would draw many vampires away from the safety of Senef-Nu into the Lands Beyond the Forests in search of victims. Among the most powerful kingdoms to emerge during this era would be that of Sūtaḫ in the black lands of Kemet. The founders of Sūtaḫ were a red-haired peoples who did not readily accept the curse placed upon them as they sought to retain their humanity. They would eventually embrace the thirst after generations of breeding allowed their human forms to become dominant and they would eventually give birth to a race of vampires calling themselves the Imperial Reds.

An offshoot of the Cama-Zotz would be the pets they kept and allowed to feed upon them. These creatures were a type of bat carrying numerous diseases which became mutated by the blood of Cama-Zotz and merged into a common strain which would be extremely virulent. These "pets" would become further transformed as their bodies absorbed the blood they had ingested until becoming a creature called Bloodwings. While most Bloodwings would remain with their masters because they were becoming specialty feeders, they rarely killed creatures larger than themselves even as they were themselves becoming larger from one generation to the next. Instead, the virus within their mouths would transform their victims and they would adopt physical characteristics of the Bloodwings. As their curse spread, most animal life within the Bloodlands became Accursed; a name created by other vampiric species to mean diseased moreso than being true vampires.

    ----------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------

It would be from these Accursed that a new, more powerful breed of vampire would take form. Travelers from another among the Worlds of Shadow would arrive as some of the last members of their kind. They were of Fae lineage and were victims of a purge by the races they once ruled over who overthrew the tyrants then began a war of extermination. They had brought this upon themselves through their habit of feasting upon the flesh of other sapient, intelligent races as if to say they were nothing more than any other animal which might be eaten. When they became beset by Bloodwings, a transformation took place giving birth to the first of the Bane. Possessing greater power than the average vampire due to their fae lineage, the Bane grew in number by infecting others with their blood.

To achieve this, they enticed their victims with sensual delights and then filled them with lust blinding them to their instincts for self-preservation so that they freely drank blood from the Banes body. Once ingested, this blood would begin transforming them into a weaker bloodline of the Bane and allow the Bane to mate with them. The children they created were, at first, more creature than Bane and it is through feeding upon their parents blood that they would become pure blooded as the blood they ingested consumed the impurities in their bodies. one among the Bane became a hunter of other vampire breeds and a seeker of power that ultimately recreated his form into that of a god-like being called Kurse. He would be the first of the so called Imperial Whites as his own parasitic curse transformed any to be infected into their own unique breed.

    ----------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------

As the various breeds and races of vampires spread, they eventually found themselves in lands where they were no longer protected by forever night and hours of daylight grew longer and longer the further north they migrated. When Kurse became Lord Magistrate of Sakkara, his hold on power above the other vampire races grew and the Ancients who had long controlled the Bloodlands now found themselves in subservient positions. This would lead them farther north to wage wars of conquest even if the risk of defeat during the day when they were vulnerable increased. They would learn to change themselves by what they consumed and would call themselves the Imperial Blue & Black.

Unlike other vampiric races, the Imperial Blue & Black forced themselves to eat and to drink the same substances as their mortal counterparts. They achieved this through by adding blood to almost everything they ate or drank until building up a tolerance. They would also consume garlic in ever increasing amounts and imbibe in substances like opium, cannabis and flavored tobaccos most often taken through a hookah into which drops of blood would be placed. For the Imperial Blue and Black, intoxicants would provide healing and allow them to adjust to the pain their bodies went through during this process of self-evolution. To them, toxic poisons like arsenic and cyanide held an intoxicating effect which reduced mortal and vampiric weaknesses allowing them to withstand sunlight for longer periods than most vampiric races are capable.

    ----------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------

Where the Imperial Blue & Black became better adjusted to living among mortals more directly, the Imperial Reds and Imperial Whites found that they could exploit other mortal weaknesses. What they could not buy, they could manipulate through mortal desires and lusts to willingly serve them. They would form alliances and employ mercenary armies to safeguard their empire by day while they concealed themselves from the Sun. Riding powerful bat-like mounts called Vakil and carrying hunting creatures called Red-Tails, the Bane would make war on mortals and vampires alike. Kurse had wanted to rule over all this world and it was through his efforts that Sakkara eventually fell under the control of his Imperial House. Only then would Kurse dare to invade the north and to lay claim to the Sphere of Life thinking it would transform him into an all powerful god when what it did was transform him into a mortal by healing him of all which made him what he was.

Over an immeasurable period of time, the Bloodlands were engulfed in a series of wars where many kingdoms arose only to eventually fall leaving only ruins in their wake. There had been many Imperial Houses before Kurse had become Lord Magistrate and many others would come to be after his disappearance. Only the arrival of Vlad Dracul III from the World of Men would change this as the warlord (also known as Vlad the Impaler) quickly rose to prominence. It would be he who tracked down Kurse to drain him dry and then leave the wretch staked to the ground paralyzed as the Sun burned away darkness over Sakkara. Dracul would then take the daughter of Kurse as one of his brides as she had escaped the fate of her father to regain power among the Bane.

    ----------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------

Unlike other breeds of vampire native to this world, Dracul was not of this world and his was the curse of a vampiric race among the mortals of another world. He would prove ruthless and cunning on Sakkara until eventually discovering the lair of the Impaled God and taking into himself a portent of his power. It would prove impossible for him to completely drain the Great Beast so that he would instead seek out what remained of Apep and consume what remained of him instead. Dracul would later learn that in doing this, he had assumed the mantle of being the left hand of the Impaled God and that he had set free the soul of Apep to be reincarnated to locations unknown to him. He would also feel the ever-present gaze of two enormous red, glowing moons lighting their crimson skies like the eyes of the Great Beast always watching over him. Only then would he learn why Apep thanked him for releasing him from his eternal curse as his was the curse of being an avatar, a form through which the Impaled God might manifest his will and which Dracul now found was his fate to be.

You wanted vampires... you have your vampires. Deshret is just a taste for all you bloodthirsty types as I've only given a basic outline with much more to come. For those wondering how this is a world of vampires when only half the planet is given over to the creatures of the night, you have to know your limitations and a world where only vampires exist wouldn't be as fun without humans to be there as cattle... and vampire killers.
