“We have always been there since the very beginning. You simply lacked the will and the vision to see what lay hidden within the darkness... to find us waiting there”

The Odrysian Mystery Cults were a secretive order born from, and then spreading their influence throughout, the Balkans. The Sisterhood of Antaea emerged from these cults worshiping the "Goddess" who was not to be named (possibly Rhea). They were women who assumed the traditional role of women to have children, to run their households and to make their men feel rewarded where others might make them feel enslaved. But they expected their men to be men as providers and as warriors viewing the ideal man as having a strong will and an even stronger sense of brotherhood to their common good. This "Brotherhood" would be represented by many gods because it was unimportant what male deity they worshiped within the patriarchal society.

They were loyal adherents to the Odrysian Kingdom and the ideal of masculine supremacy. While that might seem a contradiction, they lived in a patriarchal society and saw their role as eliminating any man they saw as not meeting their definition of what a man should be. They took an adversarial role towards weakness and believed that nothing good came without conflict except self-defeat from within. They were, however, nationalistic and the men who met their obligations as men supported them in their decisions. Any man deemed a failure as a man would be taken to a secluded grove and sacrificed to the God of Blood Éshr̥ Déiwo. The men among them would then seek out men from neighboring tribes to introduce to the widowed women and then adopted them as brothers.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

When the Odrysian Kingdom became divided into three, the Sisterhood of Antaea would bring about the creation of the Antaean Kingdom and the men of the kingdom began to worship Antaeus as their primary god. Unlike the Goddess whom women in the Sisterhood used as a generic identity that could mean whatever goddess that might be worshiped, it was important to men that their god have a name. Antaeus was only a symbol to the Brotherhood much as Kronos and the Mycenaean war god Ares had been before him. Thrax would ultimately be the name most men within the Brotherhood accepted as he came to represent the founder of the Thracian peoples. However, their version of Thrax was a crimson god representing both war and strength as the Sisterhood kept the Brotherhood strong by forcing all their men to be their best, to leave or to be sacrificed as their Thracian blood was strong even if their souls were corrupt and weak.

Sacrifice was the best way to define these peoples as they made whatever sacrifices were necessary for the betterment of the whole and any weakness of spirit fed life energies to their god who, in turn, made them stronger as a peoples. The Brotherhood began to focus more aggression towards anything foreign that could be seen as a threat to the culture they embraced. The Sisterhood took this a step further by secretly arranging the deaths of anyone they viewed as spreading weakness and saw themselves more in the role of healers curing a disease with their sacrificial blades. Only when the mysterious entity calling herself Alkaia came among them revealing herself as a true goddess walking among them would the Sisterhood take a new direction.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

The Sisterhood of Blood now became a more malevolent force viewing themselves more as feeding the God of Blood to increase his power. But it would be the creation of the Brotherhood of Blood which changed the direction of these people as Alkaia desired to see the development of a Thracian Empire. Alkaia showed favor to the Brotherhood to bring this about and evolved the Skoteiní Adelfótita (Dark Brotherhood) from among them to strengthen their position in bringing this about. It would be from them that a militant branch evolved calling itself the Tágma tou Drákou (Order of the Dragon). They took this name because Alkaia worshiped Éshr̥ Déiwo in the form of a creature they called an zmeu, a beast able to take on the form of a dragon... and she possessed the creatures skull!

Where the Thracians were known as a warlike, ferocious and bloodthirsty peoples; the Dark Brotherhood and the Skoteiní Adelfótita would always be there behind the scenes. Thracian lands were increasingly feared as place where monsters dwelled and those who came through these dark lands only seemed to add to a growing body count. When this kingdom began to fall under Roman control, they came to be known as Thraco-Roman and to adopt an Eastern Romance language. The title "Lord of Vampires" begins with Maximinus Thrax who took the title Dominus de Vampiri when he assumed the leadership of the Societas Draconistarum (the Roman name for the Order). He would place his son Maximus on the throne as Caesar because he would continue to lead his armies while secretly plotting to split the empire.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

Later Thraco-Roman Emperors would build on his work after Maximinus and his son Maximus were both beheaded by Roman troops who then impaled their heads on spears. This would be the beginning of the end for the Roman Empire which would eventually collapse into the Western Roman Empire (later Holy Roman Empire) and the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire). It was the Eastern Roman Empire which would have the greatest impact on the Order of the Dragon as the Byzantine rulers selected special people to wage an unseen war to exterminate all vampires across their lands. Even the Thracian culture itself was being eradicated and to be replaced by a new Vlachian one until only the Bessi tribe remained by the seventh century AD.

Among the mortal members of the Order were a breed of vampires called the Thraikes who would eventually be the only ones still preserving the original Thracian ways. They made no pretenses that they wanted their culture to be reborn, they worshiped the God of Blood, Éshr̥ Déiwo, calling him Dumnezeu de Sânge in the new Vlachian language. Countless generations of intermarrying with the peoples rampaging across their lands may have changed those who inherited these lands, but the Order of the Dragon would survive to preserve the legacy of their Thracian ancestors. These peoples included Getae, Dacians, Bulgarians, Greeks, Persians, Romans, Scythians, Macedonians, Slavs, Goths, Huns, Saxons, Italians, Celts, Hungarians and Turks who raped and ravaged leaving death and destruction in their wake.

Radu the Black
----------------------------------------------

Now known as the Ordinul Dragonului, the Order of the Dragon only seemed to grow in power while the Întuneric Frăției (Dark Brotherhood) adopted the ways of Christian orders for its members creating a perversion of ideals Christians embraced. They created a new version of the Bible called the Vampiric Verses where those crucified beside Christ became standins for Sabazios (Dismas) and his twin Karabazmos (Gestas), twins gods worshiped by the ancient Thracians. The Bulgarian Empire would be a major development towards creating what was now being called Valachia (Wallachia). The Order of the Dragon and the Dark Brotherhood were now ruled over by Regină Imperială, the new identity of the woman one day to be known as Mother Darque and who was using the Bulgarians to form the Bulgarian–Wallachian Empire otherwise known as Mavrovlachia (Black-Valachia / Wallachia).

They envisioned an empire encompassing all the Balkans and surrounding regions including Greece, Hungary, Ukraine and everything above the Sea of Marmara at least beyond the Bosphorus. To fulfill this objective, they would anoint Radu Negru (Radu the Black) as leader of the Order of the Dragon. He had been personally groomed for this position by the Sisterhood of Blood and then pushed into a position of power among the Teutonic Order where he earned his name as the Dark Prince. Radu the Black had crossed the Southern Carpathians in 1290 to claim Wallachia as his own where he became known as Negru Vodă (Voivode Radu) with Fii de cel Balaur (Sons of the Dragon) who were lesser nobels who were members of the Order of the Dragon.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

To the Turks, he was known as Toq-tämir (hardened steel) and in war against them, he was almost invincible as a Christian crusader. Where he commanded mortals by day, Radu commanded an army of the the living dead risen from the grave as if Hell itself were on his side. Ultimately, this proved his undoing as his son turned against him revealing the truth to Christian kings who then backed his efforts to destroy Radu the Black. He had named his son Thocomerius (Toq-tämir) because of the name his enemies had given him and when he defeated his father in battle, Thocomerius began erasing all memory of him. Thocomerius would claim that Bărbat was his true father and put to death anyone who said otherwise so that none dare repeat even a rumor as to who his true father was. Bărbats rebellious brother Litovoi had made war with Hungary and stated his belief that his bloodline descended from Genghis Khan which held great appeal to Thocomerius.

Memories of Radu's existence would survive leading to Basarab The Great (Basarab I) claiming to have dethroned him to silence continuing rumors among peasants. There were many who yet believed that the Dark Prince yet lived and to further quiet the general population, Basarab anointed himself as successor to Radu through initiation into the Societas Draconistarum. It would be through his blood that a family of rulers who would restore the heritage of the ancient Thracians proving even more warlike, ferocious and bloodthirsty in order to withstand the onslaught of Islam. Basarab would butcher anyone with divided loyalties or summon vampires to make anyone disloyal to him simply disappear.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

The bloodline of Radu Negru would next produce Basarab I the Great who succeeded his father Thocomerius and would found the House of Basarab from which several royal houses would branch off. During the rule of Radu I, Mother Darque returned where she proclaimed him as the reincarnation of Radu Negru to give him greater claim to the throne of Wallachia than his half-brother Vladislav I whom he eventually replaced. The House of Basarab would eventually become divided after his son Dan I was assassinated by his younger brother Mircea I to take the throne. The House of Dănești formed in opposition to Mircea I and in support of his son Dan II. They would also support the claims of Vlad I Uzurpatorul (the Usurper) to the throne as lover to Dan I and protector of the claims held by the House of Dănești.

Mircea I would become a close ally of King Sigismund of Hungary whom Mircea convinced to "create" the Order of the Dragon in 1408 bringing the military wing of the Dark Brotherhood out from the shadows. At one time, it would be as powerful as the Teutonic Knights themselves and helped King Sigismund to become Holy Roman Emperor hoping to make their dreams for the Kingdom of the Vlachs into a reality. Dan II would feign loyalty to Mircea I until his death and then, he would make war with Mircea I's only legitimate heir Michael I who had inherited the throne. When Michael I was eventually killed in battle, Dan II seized the throne and began a series of battles with Radu II, an illegitimate son of Mircea I, to hold it.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

Dan II would eventually kill his rival on the battlefield and he would rule until killed himself by the Ottomans in 1432. The Ottomans backed Radu II's half-brother Alexander I in taking the throne while the Order of the Dragon would be grooming his successor within the court of King Sigismund. When Alexander I ascended the throne, he recognized the sovereignty of Ottoman Sultan Murad II to maintain power. This would allow his illegitimate half-brother Vlad II to win support from King Sigismund recognizing him as the true voivode (War Chief, Prince, Governor) of Wallachia on behalf of Christianity. Vlad II was another illegitimate son of Mircea II who had been initiated into the Order in 1431. Unlike his brothers and half brothers, the newly proclaimed Vlad Dracul was the son of Musatei cel Rău (Mother Darque) who had tired of the chaos and not finding her ambitions to see the return of the Thracian Empire take place.

From his wife Princess Cneajna of Moldavia (Vasilisa Cneajna Maria Muşat), daughter of Voivode of Moldavia Alexander I (the Good), Vlad would father his namesake Vlad Drăculea (Vlad III the Impaler) and his brother Radu cel Frumos (Radu III the Fair). Cneajna herself was a loyal member of the Soră Capotă de Sânge and herself a descendant of Mamă de cel Dracul (Mother of the Devil) who gave birth to Vlad Dracul. Through her, the House of Drăculești would be formed as a rival family to the House of Dănești and bide their time while another sat upon the throne they claimed as their own. For most of his young life, Vlad II had been groomed by Mother Darque as the Order of the Dragon had plans for him to rule even though he was not the legitimate heir. Vlad was brought into the Order of the Dragon in 1431 for which he took the name Dracul meaning dragon and each of his sons became known as Dracula meaning "Son of the Dracul".

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

Vlad seized rule over Wallachia in 1436 upon the death of Alexander only to find himself without his patron when Sigismund died the following year throwing Hungary and the entire region into chaos. He had been given orders to defend Transylvania by the new Hungarian king Albert of Habsburg but would instead form an alliance with the Ottoman Sultan to preserve his own power. They would invade Hungary where they would eventually be pushed back but not before killing thousands and making off with enormous wealth and then Vlad invaded Transylvania in 1438. When Albert died in 1439, Vlads loyalties were again becoming divided and he was claiming neutrality unsure which side would be more to his advantage. When a new voivode named John Hunyadi was appointed in Transylvania, he approached Vlad to join him in a new crusade to which Vlad provided only a few thousand cavalrymen.

For this betrayal, Vlad would be ordered to appear in the Sultans court to answer for his actions after Hunyadi's victories against them in 1442. He would depart leaving his eldest son Mircea II as ruler of Wallachia while bringing his youngest sons Vlad and Radu to leave as hostages in the Ottoman Empire. Vlad was only released himself because of his sons captivity and reclaimed his position as voivode of Wallachia. In 1443, Hunyadi invaded Wallachia defeating the forces loyal to Vlad and the Ottomans forcing Vlad to flee with his family. Vlad would reclaim his throne with the aid of the Ottomans but then broke his promise to the Sultan by providing thousands of horsemen to fight the Ottomans personally led by his son Mircea.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

When Hunyadi was defeated at the Battle of Varna in 1444, Vlad had him captured during his retreat intending to give him to the Sultan with only the threat of war with Hungary forcing his release. Vlad would then order Mircea back into battle against the Ottomans in 1445 and betrayed the Ottomans yet again with alliances against them. Although Vlad believed his sons had been killed for these betrayals, the Sultan had not harmed them and Vlads loyalties again shifted as he fell out of favor with Hunyadi. Vlad Dracul would be betrayed by his cousin Vladislav II who allied with Hunyadi and had Vlad assassinated when he fled in the face of a powerful invasion by Hunyadi. His son Mircea would then be slain by boyars who first blinded him with a red hot poker before burying him alive.

It should be noted that all the sons of Dracul were called "Dracula" as it was a name denoting them as his sons rather than a personal name. His son Vlad III would begin a timultuous reign where he would rule a total of three times before entering into legend as one of the greatest rulers in the regions history. It would be during his third rule that he became the self-proclaimed Stăpânul Vampiri (Lord of Vampires) and then crossed over into the Worlds of Shadow to seek out greater power than he might possess upon the World of Man. Because his physical body had been slain, part of Vlad Dracula would survive upon the Earth representing that part of his soul called the Ib by the ancient Egyptians. It would remain on Earth possessing any who might share his bloodline should the conditions be right for it to happen.

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

The Order of the Dragon would lose prominence with the death of King Sigismund. It would survive through the Dark Brotherhood and the Brotherhood of Blood as an identity for members with a military background. As the centuries came and went, the Order of the Dragon came to be known in many countries in their own languages as the Ordo Draconis in Latin, the Ordinul Dragonului in Romanian, Drachenorden in German, Orden del Dragón in Spanish, Sárkány Lovagrend in Hungarian, Ritarikunta Lohikäärme in Finnish, Jamii wa Joka in Swahili, 军事修士会 in Chinese, 竜の順番 in Japanese, دستور اژدها in Persian Ordine del Drago in Italian, Орден Дракона in Russian, Ред змаја in Serbian, Trefn y Ddraig and Ordre du Dragon to name just a few.

When the Brotherhood of Blood broke away from the Dark Brotherhood in the modern era, the Order of the Dragon took control over the Dark Brotherhood. When they reunited with the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Blood, the Order of the Dragon ascended to fully encompass the entire organization. In the modern world, they would evolve into a global organization of ex-military and as a network of civilian members that associate with them. Several members of the Drăculești family survived into modern times hiding their true identities beneath other family names. But, from time to time, the family curse finds them and a member of the family becomes host to the reincarnation of Dracula!

Within the Worlds of Shadow
----------------------------------------------

When Vlad Dracula arrived within the Worlds of Shadow, he had been well versed in the ways of sorcery having been a member of the Black Rose Society and serving as the Red Dragon within the Black Zodiac. During his time among them, he learned to absorb the souls of warriors into himself and to gain strength from their weakness as to become part of him, they had to first fall in battle. Of these souls, Vlad learned how to preserve those who had served him loyally and who had proven worthy to be preserved against death should they fall in battle serving him. When he became Lord Magistrate over the World of Sakkara, Vlad would release thirteen of these souls to be reborn as his Imperial Council. Through them, the Order of the Dragon would be reborn on Sakkara and they would succeed in refounding the Thracian Empire where they had failed to do so on the World of Man.

Within the Imperial House of Reigning Blood, there existed a separate realm which served as a world unto itself. This realm would be given the name Țeara Rumânească in honor of this accomplishment and the Order of the Dragon would rule from within it. A total of thirteen Houses would be established to represent the Imperial Council where each member would establish their own families from those within the World of Sakkara. Many of these were of Thracian ancestry as they had crossed into Sakkara from a doorway located in the Balkans region before it became closed. Only witha bleeding rose could any from the World of Man now gain entry into Sakkara and it had been through such means that the new Lord Magistrate had gained entry. It is possibly for this reason that each of the Houses incorporates a rose into their family crest with each choosing a different color to designate their own House against the others.
