The Wruen are a peoples who were originally saurian in nature, Sauria Venator, until the arrival of humans who brought devastation to their lands. These humans had traveled a different evolutionary path as an offshoot of an earlier species and grow to be almost seven feet tall with most of this height being due to the length of their legs. The human population would set about destroying what did not provide for their survival and replaced what they destroyed with plant life more suitable to their needs. This proved devastating to the native saurian population who made war against the humans and devoured their flesh creating hatred among survivors towards them. But the food they ate was often deadly to the saurians and caused mutations in their offspring after eating human flesh. The creatures born from these mutations were part saurian and part human making them outcasts among the saurians who traded them in the flesh markets rather than killing them outright.

Some of these mutant saurians would be sold to humans by unscrupulous dealers in flesh to be raised as curiosities and as slaves. Those who purchased them unknowingly unleashed a genetic disorder into their own species resulting in more of these creatures being created. Over time, these humans would be replaced by creatures calling themselves the Wruen. They would still possess the upper bodies of humans with the lower body of reptiles possessing a hooked leg structure and reptilian tails. Genetically speaking, they would be mammal-like reptilian creatures more mammal than reptile or saurian. Their saurian racial traits would include color banding and various small spikes while the lower half of their body can have scales or even have glandular skin more like amphibians. What makes them exceptionally dangerous in battle are their feet which have razor sharp talons and can operate like secondary hands.

Their skulls possess bony protrusions under the skin pushed up in three rows of short spikes rising slightly above the hairline in front but disappearing as they spread further back. The Wruen also possess a bizarre winglike protrusion from their backs which seems to act to regulate their body temperature releasing heat when they become overheated in warmer temperatures and absorbing more sunlight to help warm them when temperatures cool down. The wings are very rigid, tipped by sharp points and change color when threatened or when it's mating time. Both their saurian and human ancestry were warmblooded so that they do not need to hibernate. Yet, they are capable of hibernating both to heal faster and to survive in subterranean areas if the environment becomes too harsh even for their amazing bodies to survive. They are incredibly fast, agile and possess great pouncing ability with their tails acting as a counter balance and as whips for striking an enemy with.

Whatever the initial reasons for the mutation, the process is irreversible. They sometimes refer to their condition as a curse because they inherited instincts from both their human and saurian ancestors leading many to wish they were one or the other. Most Wruen accept their fate and worship demons called the Nakhá due to their similar anatomy and appearance. They reproduce by egg laying with females laying up to fifteen eggs at a time up to twice a year because not all the eggs will hatch. The tough, leathery shell of their eggs can be difficult to escape as the shell must harden or the child will be born weak. While the Wruen began their existence on Elderon, some found their way to Wyvernia where they lost the wings on their back and became creatures of elemental fire. The Wruen of Elderon would possess glands which excrete toxic poisons and they can create electrical discharges.
