r is a word which actually describes many different species rather than just one. The name originates with the arrival of peoples in ancient Europe called the Fallaną. They were a race of cannibals who hunted other humans as game no different than any other animal. Cannibalism was only one of the cultural traits that made them feared as they were also practitioners of incest. Deformities and health problems thus took a heavy toll on their populations with high levels of infant mortality (just more meat for the stew pot).

To replenish their numbers, Fallaną stole the children of other humans to raise as their own. Some survivors of breeding age would be allowed to live among them to produce children and serve as slaves. As long as they served their purpose, these slaves were allowed to live but their fate was sealed if they ever lost their value to the Fallaną. Their skin was grayish in color which they covered with the ashes of cremated dead and dyed with green pigment. This added to their fearsome appearance with their broken teeth and deformities. But, they were also practitioners of death rites, a cult of the dead! Through such practices, they came to the attention of death demons called the Tuchulcha. It would be they who made them aware of the God of Death called rus... and it is from him that they became known by another name!

Tuchulcha would mate with rs and through this pass created further changes. The most pronounced of these being larger canines making them look more like animals than humans. While they would eventually disappear in the World of Men, this species survived by crossing between worlds to establish new tribes on the World of Elderon. On this world, they would continue their cultural practices as on the World of Men. Those they used to replenish themselves would be of different races and, sometimes, altogether different species.

While weaker than gres dwelling here, they found a few of their young among them. gres have no parental instincts and the gresse would abandon her young by first consuming the child of a mother from another people, then replacing it with her own. These children were made into the exact likeness of the unsuspecting adoptive mother and yet, r mothers could sense what had been done... they just didn't care!

gre blood would contribute only slightly to the evolutionary development of rs. What it did contribute would be enough for them to consider one another distant relatives but little more. A new, more powerful race of r known as the Bainetaną (Bone-Eaters) now emerged with bone-crushing jaws whose name actually derives from crushing bones with their teeth to suck out the marrow which they find a delicacy.

The name r became more generic in its usage over time and many became known as rs are barely related to True-rs if at all. When any of the True-r races encounters these peoples, they assimilate them rather than seeking to destroy them. If they want to be rs, then as long as they accept r ways and mix blood with True-r... then they are accepted as rs. If anything, a True-r is impressed that any creature would want to be an r but life for such creatures tends to be far worse than for a True-r as they are viewed as inferiors even by the lowest among the True-r races.

The greatest changes occured when they intermixed their bloodlines with the Alux and Hŋs as this fortified their bloodlines. But it was in crossing their bloodlines with the lfar and the Fae that rs became more widely known due to the blood feuds that resulted from their hatreds.

The main branch of rs, the True-rs, are what most think of when they come to mind. They tend to have different shades of green flesh tone. Those possessing the brighter, lighter shades of green often have brown to beige or pink hues reflecting a stronger descent from humans. Those with the darker shades of green to black with a green hue are most often more directly descended from the nonhuman ancestors of the species.

it is thought that True-rs have green skin because their human ancestors dyed their skin green and they wanted green skin. Thus, when they mixed their blood with species that had green skin; it became a permanent part of their physical appearance.

Most rs are said to have a reptilian look about them but this comparison is only a slight one for the main branch. Others, however, have a much stronger appearance more correctly said to be Saurian, especially where their teeth may be concerned.

rs are often viewed as a scavenger race as they prefer taking what others have left behind to creating something new. They are especially known for scavenging battlefields to take what a fallen warrior has left abandoned by their death. rs also have a reputation akin to Ğhūls (to whom they have also mixed blood) in that they will dig up the dead to scavenge grave goods buried with them. But, rs have their standards and while their stomachs can digest almost anything organic, they do not like eating "rotten" meat as in that of decomposing bodies whereas Ğhūls prefer the taste.

    Powers & Abilities

All rs are hardy survivors. Injuuries that would kill most living creatures, they can survive. Even injuries to their brains can be healed with time as other than some memory loss, their brains are extremely adaptable. rs often have two hearts leaving them weak for a time if one is injured but they can survive such injuries unless both hearts are affected. rs excrete a slime around injuries that fuses their flesh back together if the injury is held closed. if a limb is severed, it can actually be put back in place and this slime will cement the limb back in place while beginning the healing process. Even beheading an r does not always guarantee death as some breeds can survive minutes to hours after a beheading providing time for others to place the head back on the neck of their bodies to begin the healing process.

rs come in many forms but tend to have certain vulnerabilities in common. They are creatures of flesh and blood even where this might come about more by supernatural means. They can be weakened by disease, but not killed by it as their immune systems will kick in and help them recover. rs can be poisoned but it must be a fast acting poison to kill as otherwise their bodies will reject the poison and heal them. Depending on the species and where their organs are located, they can be slain like any other living thing. They heal and recover quickly from injuries but only certain races have advanced healing abilities... otherwise, damaging a major organ or massive damage to their bodies will kill them. Massive bloodloss can kill most rs and the best way to kill an r is to first disable them, such as a blow to the spine, and then hack them apart.

The earliest beginnings of the r start with Goblins and their hunger for smaller creatures. One such creature was a supernatural being called a Ʋǐla. These were nature spirits formed from eldritch energies as a small, winged Sprite which Goblins often caught on the tips of their long sticky tongues. The energies of these Sprites would be passed on to the Goblins eggs which are abandoned shortly after being laid. These spawn had a green glow with the resulting polliwogs being born poisonous and cannibalistic. Metamorphosizing into their mature form, the strong devoured the weak. The survivors then formed a pack and fought among themselves to establish rank with any that didn't survive being consumed by those that did. These resulting hybrids would be called the Alux because they were no longer seen as true Goblins, but neither were they the first of the True-rs either.

Although it might be conjectured that they were still part of the Goblin clade at this time, it was clear that they were evolving into something new. They were a malicious race little different than the Goblins they evolved from. But, they were far more powerful and unified by common goals. Offshoots of the Alux included splinter races like the Chaneque and Gremlins, creatures representing wind and fire elements where the Alux themselves represented the element of earth. Mixing their bloodline with the Nkk and the Eft representing the element of water growing stronger, taller and more savage. Calling themselves the Dreūząz, they could regenerate themselves and even breath or drink water through their skin. They would gain the name Hellbenders from the unusual trait that if slain and buried, their bodies excrete a jelly-like substance that completely regenerates them and they are reborn from within the soil with a more demonic appearance.
